Going to Class

Going to Class Look, heres the thing: Youre gonna be very tempted to skip classes in college. Unlike high school, there isnt quite the penalty of skipping classes in college. This doesnt mean that you should be skipping a class that is so important to your success (and GPA). Looking at my semester schedule this week, I started to realize that actually going to class might be the thing that I dread most about the semester starting. Dont get me wrong, I love my classes and the subjects being taught in them, but an extra hour of sleep is always going to be especially enticing. Thinking back on my previous semesters, though, I realized how much each class attendance mattered to my academic success. I wouldnt be able to properly write about or do well on an exam for a class that I didnt put my complete effort into. This is simply the magic of going to class. The same effort that it takes to get out of bed (avoid hitting the snooze button) on a cold, January morning to walk to class is what every student should be putting into the work that is in front of them. Whether its that scary research paper on a topic that just seems way too complicated or the exam that you spent two weeks preparing for, your persistence and dedication will pay off later. How do I know this? Last month, I opened the web page where I would find my final semester grades and was suddenly hit with the realization that my perseverance was what brought me my best GPA yet. I couldnt be more proud to say that I will continue to shamelessly attend each of my classes because I know what it means for the bigger picture. Bottom line: GO TO CLASS. Jacob Class of 2019 IĆ¢€™m an Advertising student within the College of Media. My hometown is a place called Fairmount, Illinois, which is about 30 minutes from campus. I began my Illinois journey in the Division of General Studies.
